Arthur F. Korp, Sr., 90 a lifelong resident of Worcester passed away peacefully Saturday December 10th 2016 with his devoted and beloved family gathered by his side. Arthur’s wife of 43 years Rosalind M. (Festa) Korp passed away in 1996. Arthur is survived by his three devoted children, Arthur “Artie” Korp, Jr. and his wife Donna, Kevin J. Korp and Brenda L. Choiniere and her husband Paul all of Worcester; four cherished grandchildren, Jenifer Cappoli and her husband Keith, Stacy Choiniere, Chelsea and Tiffany Korp ; two great grandchildren, Domenic and Gianna; Nieces, nephews and extended family members. Arthur was born in Worcester, the only child of Arthur and Mary (Murphy) Korp. After graduating from high School Arthur joined the U.S. Army during World War II serving his country proudly. Upon his discharge from service Arthur began a 40 plus year dedication to the City of Worcester in the Department of Public Works retiring as director of sewers. After retirement, Art helped his son Kevin with his business. Arthur was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes church, the former St Margaret Mary Church and the Vernon Hill Post, American Legion. He was an enthusiastic Holy Cross Football and basketball fan. He enjoyed bowling and played in several leagues at Colonial and Thunderbird lanes. Arthur loved riding rollercoasters. He also loved traveling to Florida and Maine, and especially Disneyworld. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Wednesday, December 14th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Thursday, December 15th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Lourdes church, 1290 Grafton St. where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery.
