Carmine J Laconte

July 6, 1917 — December 9, 2016

Carmine J. Laconte, 99, a lifelong Worcester resident, passed away peacefully Friday, December 9th, 2016 in his own home with family at his side.   Carmine was born in Worcester almost 100 years ago, July 6, 1917, was one of six children of Italian Immigrants Joseph and Annina (Ferro) Laconte. Carmine joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II serving proudly with the Massachusetts Yankee Division, 181st Regiment in the Philippines.  Upon his discharge in 1946, Carmine was married in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church to his devoted wife for the next 67 years, Margerita P.  Larusso.  They began their life devoted to each other building his own home in 1952 in the Lincoln Street neighborhood where they raised their family. Carmine provided for his family by working as a member of the teamsters local 170 as a route driver for Atlas Distributors many years before retiring.   He also was an accomplished stone mason and wood worker.   Carmine leaves his two daughters, Anne Weagle and her husband Gary of Rutland, Marie Araujo and her husband Theophilus of Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard; his two grandsons, David Weagle and his wife Linley of Edgartown, Andrew Weagle and his wife Katie of Holden; sister in laws Mary Ciuffredo and Tina Russo.   Carmine additionally leaves many nieces and nephews, especially Carol Loader, Lois Ciuffredo, Kathy and Peter Rodrigues and Cindy Russo who took time to visit and help him in the past four years when he was alone.  Carmine was predeceased by his brother Philip, and sisters, Rose Pellegrino, Teresa Lavin, Yolanda Abruzzese and Mary Laconte.    Carmine was devoted to his family. He was especially proud of his grandsons and loved to spend time with them. Carmine loved to travel and found great enjoyment going to the casinos.  He spent many hours on long walks and working in his yard and gardens.  He lived life well.    A period of calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 14th from 10:15 to 11:00 am in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.  Burial will be private.  The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.     The Laconte family would like to thank the Salmon Hospice Association, especially his nurse Beth for the wonderful care and compassion.
