Michael G. Salem, Sr. 64, of Sutton, passed away suddenly Thursday, December 8, 2016, after being stricken ill at home. Michael, one of two sons of Aziz “Ace” and Dorothy (Weiler) Salem, was raised in Dudley. He graduated from Bartlett High School and later from Northeastern University. In 1978, Michael married his best friend Rosemary Carter, and they established their home in Sutton on Lake Singletary where they have lived and raised their two sons for the next 38 years. Michael began his employed life in the family business, Salem Tomatoes. He then worked for the U.S. Navy at Natick Labs evaluating fabrics for military uniforms for more than 22 years before retiring in 2013. He has enjoyed his last three years of retirement with Rosemary exploring both the American Southwest and New England, relaxing with friends and family on both the lake and while vacationing in Scottsdale, Ariz. Michael is survived by his wife Rosemary; his two beloved sons, Michael G. Salem, Jr. of Medford and Matthew Salem of Worcester; extended family members and friends. His younger brother, John Salem, passed away in 1987. Michael was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral and a 30-year board member of the Lake Singletary Watershed Association. He loved all the New England sports teams, especially the New England Patriots. Last December, he obtained his life-long dream of owning a Corvette, and enjoyed many road trips with Rosemary. Michael’s favorite moments in life were those with his wife and sons. “Life is good”. Friends and family are invited to calling hours Tuesday, December 13th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Wednesday, December 14th from 9:00 am to 9:45 am in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. in Worcester. His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am, followed by burial with his parents and brother in the family lots of Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in his name can be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. or a charity of one’s choice.
