Christy L. Belba, 94, of Auburn, passed away in his home on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. Christy’s wife of thirty-seven years, Dhoksia Bana (Yanka) Belba passed away in 1984. He is survived by two sons, George C. Belba of Auburn and William C. Belba and his wife Maria of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Vera Marie Credit and her husband James of Westminster, CO; two brothers, Theodore and V. Gerald Belba both of Worcester; a sister, Constance Vessio of Worcester and four grandchildren, Scott and Richard Belba, Stacia Reilly and Cayley Credit. He is predeceased by his grandson, Craig Belba who passed away in August of 2016. Christy was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island a son of the late Lambi and Meropi (Saro) Belba. Christy entered the United States Navy and served his country proudly during WWII. After the service, he worked as a Chief Quality Control Inspector at Rexnord for 42 years, retiring in 1986. He was a founding member of St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church and was an active and very involved member. He served for many years as the church’s Secretary. Christy loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed reading, listening to music and was an avid movie lover. Christy’s family would like to thank all the wonderful doctors, nurses and hospice staff for their kind, loving and exemplary care of our Dad. No words could express the deep gratitude we have to you all, as well as to God for you. All of us thank each of you with deepest respect and grateful hearts. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester and again on Wednesday morning, November 23rd from 9:00 am to 10:00 am in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street Shrewsbury. His funeral liturgy will follow at 10:00 am; the Very Reverend Father Nicholas Apostola will officiate. Burial next to his wife Dorothy will be in Hope Cemetery. Reverend Apostola will conduct a 6:00 pm Trisagion service Tuesday night during calling hours.
