Peter P. DiTaranto Sr. 94, of Worcester died peacefully Wednesday October 26, 2016 in the Christopher House surrounded by his loving family. Peter leaves his devoted wife of 65 years, Edna (Rodnick) DiTaranto, his loving children, Donald Wade of Pennsylvania, Peter P DiTaranto Jr. of Worcester, Bonnie M. Dupont and her husband Ronald of Shrewsbury, and a sister Rose DiPilla of Worcester. Peter was the proud grandfather to Donald Wade Jr. Deborah Puccio, Tara and Janna DiTaranto , Alana Giagni and her husband Stephen. Peter loved his great grandchildren, Amanda, Eric, Chad, and Isabella. He also leaves many nephews and nieces. Peter was predeceased by his brothers; Vincent, Vito, Angelo, Joseph, and Frank DiTaranto, and his sisters, Ida Gingerelli, and Rosemarie Robinson Peter was born in Worcester son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Perrone) DiTaranto and lived here all his life. He served his country proudly during WW11 in the United States Army. He served in the Aleutian Islands and received several commendations. Pete was a member of the Church of St. Johns, the East Side Improvement Club, The East Side Post # 201, and the Disabled American Veterans. Peter was an enthusiastic fan of the Patriots and Red Sox. He loved to play cards, go to the Casino, and really enjoyed a good Day at the Track! Pete was a great cook and enjoyed a good meal with his family. In his younger day’s he along with his brother Vinny loved to entertain people, Peter played the Violin. However, the most treasured times were when he was with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Christopher House for their care and compassion shown to Peter and his family during his stay there. We truly appreciate it. Peter’s funeral will be held on Monday October 31, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Church of St. John, 40 Temple St. Visiting hours with the family will be on Sunday from 3PM to 6PM in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Philips Cemetery, Grafton. Members of the East Side Post will meet at 6PM for their ritual.
