Anthony G. Sakaloglou, loving and beloved son, brother, nephew and grandson, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2016. He was 27 years old. Anthony fought the battle of anxiety and addiction for many years, and now he is at rest. His family prays for all of the victims of this epidemic. Anthony was born on August 3, 1989 in Worcester and was a graduate of Saint Peter Marion Junior High School and Worcester Technical High School. He is survived by his parents, George and Gail A. (Wood) Sakaloglou of Worcester; a brother, George A. Sakaloglou of Worcester and his paternal grandmother, Jestimani Sakaloglou “YiaYia” of Greece and many aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Marie Wood and his paternal grandfather, Spiro Sakaloglou. Anthony worked in his dad’s construction business, and at Home Depot as manager of the electrical department. He played baseball for Jack Barry Little League, and was on the Worcester Crew Team. Rowing was his passion. He loved his coach and his team members, and took pride in the team’s sportsmanship and its victories. Anthony loved to cook, and to create his own recipes. He learned many dishes from YiaYia, as he cooked alongside her. Anthony enjoyed watching the History Channel, and debating topics such as UFO’s, conspiracy theories, and nature’s wonders. His favorite pastime was driving with his dad in the green Corvette with the T-tops off, listening to Luciano Pavarotti. Anthony loved animals, and they loved him back. He endured Bella, his cat, sleeping on his chest every night, despite being allergic to her and waking up each day with a sore back. Anthony had a great sense of humor, and put everyone at ease. He will be remembered mostly for his kind and caring heart. Anthony would want us to honor his memory, rather than grieve his loss, to smile when we think of him, rather than to cry. He is loved very much by all, and will be missed dearly. Family, friends, and others whose lives Anthony touched are invited to MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.
