Louis V Iovieno Sr.

October 11, 1930 — October 16, 2016

He suffered patiently and long , His  hope was bright , his faith was strong The peace of Jesus filled his breast and in his arms he sank to rest On October 16, 2016 at 7:30 , our beloved husband , father , grandfather and uncle , Louis V Iovieno, Sr lost his long  and difficult struggle with vascular dementia. Lou passed peacefully on Willow Lane at Knowlwood Nursing Center .  He was born in  Amalfi  Italy on October 11, 1930 to Vincenzo and Maria ( Acampora) Iovieno. Lou immigrated to the U.S. at the age of six.  He attended Worcester Public Schools and graduated from Boys Trade school.   He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as air craft mechanic  in Germany during the Berlin Airlift .  He discharged as corporal and received the Good Conduct medal, Army of Occupation of Germany medal, The National Defense Medal, and the American Defense Service Medal also the Korean Service Medal. He was employed by several area trucking companies, retiring from Dario Diesel Service after 44 years as a service manager and outside sales representative.  Lou met his wife Louise  at a dinner dance in Our Lady of Mercy Church on Valentine’s Day 1953 .They were married on Oct 10 , 1954 in OLM church . Lou was a member of the former St. Margaret Mary Church , where he served as an usher, Eucharistic  Minister, Treasure of the men’s club and chairman of the  bishop’s fund , partners in charity for over 35 years. He is a member of St. Anne’s Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister.  A member and past faithful navigator of Bishop O’Reilly Assembly  4th degree Knights of Columbus . Over 40 years he held the roles of comptroller, trustee, member of the color corps, aide to the master.  In 1998 he received the Knight of the year award and received the key to the city.   He was a member, past grand knight and class advisor of Pope John 23rd, Knights of Columbus. He was cub master of pack 59 and scout master of troop 59 of Lake View Congressional Church.  He leaves his wife of 62 years, Louise M ( Anthony) Iovieno, 3 children Susan M Krasinskas, and her husband Donald of North Oxford, Louis V, Iovieno Jr and his wife Agatha of Dudley, and Patricia M Iovieno of  Worcester, his 2 two grandchildren Louis Iovieno III and Ashley Iovieno  of Dudley,  His brother Rosario Iovieno and his wife Lucia of Rome and Amalfi, Italy.   Lou leaves 2 sisters in law , Patricia Quintiliani and her husband Donato  of Worcester and Beverly Anthony of Shrewsbury.  He leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Aldo Iovieno and sister Carmella Yaccarino.  Lou and his family would like to thank Patricia Foley-Martel and the entire staff of Knollwood Nursing Center including Snoball.  Special thanks to the nurses and CNA’s of Willow Lane, you are truly angels who helped ease this difficult journey and made our family feel at home .  Your compassion, kindness , caring and love will never be forgotten.  A special thanks to April for always making him smile, even on the darkest days.  We would also like to thank Dr. Susan Hardy and the outstanding staff of the Grafton Street Summit elder care. Lou’s funeral will be held on Wednesday October 19 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Church of St. Anne 130 Boston Turnpike. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visiting hours with the family will be from 4PM to 7PM on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA.02472.
