Mary Elizabeth Lerit (née Sexton) passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at St. Vincent’s Hospital on Friday, October 7, 2016 surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Bronx, NY in 1940 and was raised in the Catholic faith by her mother Jean Sexton and her grandmother Nannie with her sister Katherine “Kate” McAuliffe and her late brother, John “Jack” Sexton.Mary pursued advanced mathematics, a career in math education and computer science and enjoyed international travel. She married Dr. Arthur H. Lerit of Queens, NY in 1971. She is survived and cherished by her husband and their six children: Mitchel and Lindsey Lerit and their daughter, Clarajean; Daniel and Whitney Lerit and their children Raven and Nathan; William and Tracey Lerit and their children Kamden, Kayden, and Nevaeh; Rosemary Lerit Titievsky and Kirill Titievsky and their children Leo, Zoe, and Wes; Regina Lerit and her fiancé Michael Penn; and Drs. Dorothy Lerit Shebelut and Conrad Shebelut.Family and friends will gather for calling hours on Wednesday, October 12th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel (located within the cemetery) with burial to follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY, where Mary will be laid to rest beside her beloved mother. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mary’s name be made to your local animal rescue league.
