Virginia C. (Walkevich) Zona, 90, of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at UMass Hospital in Worcester. Her devoted husband of sixty-four years, Mario V. Zona, predeceased her on August 6, 2016. Virginia is survived by two sons, Stephen Zona of Worcester, and Thomas Zona and his wife Kim (Gallagher) of Auburn; three grandchildren, Zachary, Carly, and Bradley; nieces and nephews. Virginia was born in Worcester, daughter of Alexander and Mary (Urbonas) Walkevich. She was predeceased by three sisters, Jennie Walkevich, Julia Gerardi, and Anne Peterson. Virginia was a graduate of Commerce High School. She worked as a clerk for Harry Corbin Insurance Agency and later at the Insurance Marketing Agency. She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Church. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, could spend weeks making a jigsaw puzzle and enjoyed a good card game. Virginia loved to travel, both in this country and abroad, but found great joy in spending summers at Cape Cod with her family or on a monthly trip to Foxwoods. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, October 5, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street. Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 6, from the funeral home, departing in procession at 9:35 a.m., for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
