John J. Stellato, 84, a lifelong Worcester resident passed away peacefully Friday, August 26th 2016 following a period of declining health. John was born in Worcester, the only son of Joseph and Rose (Caccialino) Stellato. He graduated from North High School where he earned Captain and All-City Football honors during the 1949 season. John then joined the U.S. Army serving his country proudly in Germany prior to the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge from the service, John joined the family business Worcester Wrecking and Salvage, assuming the business from his father, and served as its President and CEO, until retiring in 1994. The “Love of John’s Life” of 46 years, Carol (Webber) Stellato passed away March 12, 2013. He is survived by many extended family members including his principal caregivers, Jeanmarie and Richard LaMarche. A quiet, simple man who found his greatest joy, with his neighborhood, his wife, relatives and friends. John and Carol enjoyed occasional trips to the casino and Ruby Tuesdays. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30th 2016 at 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial next to his wife will follow in St John Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held Tuesday, from 10-11 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
