Anthony “Tony” Magro, 91, a lifelong resident of Worcester passed away Saturday, August 27th 2016 surrounded by the family he loved. Tony was born in Worcester, one of eight children of Sebastian and Josephine (Curcino) Magro. He attended the Worcester Public Schools, a member of the “Greatest Generation” he left school early to serve his country during World War II proudly as a member of the U.S. Marines Corps. Tony provided for his family as a truck driver, more than 30 years as a member of the Teamsters Local 170, working for various trucking companies including DiGaetano Bros before retiring in 1987. The “Love of his life” and wife of 29 years, Carol (Fray) Magro passed away in 1992. He is survived by his four children, Deborah Lewis and her husband Terry of Kyle, Texas, David Magro of Worcester, Jo-Ann Jardio of St. Petersburg FL, Sandra Staney and her husband James of N. Brookfield; a sister, Marie Joyce of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Besides his wife and parents, Anthony was predeceased by a brother, Paul Magro, and sisters, Rosemarie Buduo, Ann Verdolino, Frances Bellervie, Josephine Giaquinto and Pauline Pellegrino; Tony was a member of the Teamster Local Union 170, and the DAV Chapter #4. A simple soul who treasured the things that mattered most, “His Family”. His greatest moments in life were spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren around him. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Today, Sunday August 28th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral service will be held Monday, August 29th at 11:00 am in the funeral home.
