Franklyn J. Scola, Jr. 85, of Worcester passed away peacefully at home on Friday evening. Franklyn was born in Worcester, one of five children to Franklyn J. Scola, Sr. and Catherine (Carrigan) Scola. He attended Worcester Academy, and graduated from Commerce High School. Franklyn then pursued his passion for knowledge by attending the University of Rhode Island where he met and married the “love of his Life” for the next 64 years Virginia Russo. He then continued his education at Portia Law School in Boston, Clark University and Assumption College. Franklyn began his career by obtaining a real-estate and insurance brokers licenses. He then founded in 1958 Absco Pest Control and served as its president for the next 30 years before retiring and passing the company on to his son Frank in 1985. Franklyn also co-owns The Tatnuck Driving Range and Golf school with his son Kerry. He continued to be an advisor with his two best friends his son’s. Frank is survived by the family he loves; his wife Virginia; his three children, “The Apple of his Eye” Kathleen A. Novia and her husband David whom he believed to be a third son, Franklyn J. Scola III and his wife Karen, and Kerry J. Scola all of Worcester; his five grandchildren who gave him many years of great joy, Michael and Ryan Novia, Nicole Scola Simon, Anthony, and Franklyn J. Scola IV; six great grandchildren, Anthony, Lily, Chloe, Harper, Sophie and Brody. He is also survived by a brother Paul and was pre deceased by his parents, a brother and two sisters. He also leaves Nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Very active his entire life, Frank was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Pope John Counsel Knights of Columbus and the National Pest Control Association. He was past president of his Condominium Association in Pompano Beach Florida. Franklyn was an avid Enthusiast of New England Sports teams, He also loved participating in golf, bowling, softball along many others. He enjoyed spending his summers in his Rhode Island home and his winters at his condo in Pompano Beach FL. Frank very much believed that family and friends were the most important things in life. He always had room in his heart for everyone he met, but believed his wife, children and grandchildren always came first in life. The most enjoyable times in his life were spent with his family. He was very generous with his love, time and resources, and helped anyone he could. The Scola family would like to thank the Holden Rehabilitation and Umass Memorial Hospital Staff, Nurses and Doctors, especially Dr. Rosenthal, Dr. Irwin, Dr. Massarelli and Dr. Meyers for the care, compassion and comfort they gave to Franklyn. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Tuesday, August 23rd from 4pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held, Wednesday, August 24th from the funeral home with a procession to Immaculate Conception church, 353 Grove Street where his funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Jon Cemetery.
