Mary Lou (Leichtle) Bay, 84, of Boylston passed away peacefully on Monday, August 15th 2016 at St. Mary Healthcare Center in Worcester. Mary Lou was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, daughter of Paul and Eleanor (Blondeck) Leichtle. Raised in Waterbury, she graduated from Crosby High School then graduated magna cum laude from University of Connecticut, where she also met her husband of the next 52 years, Laurence A. Bay Sr. Their employment opportunities took them to several cities including West Boylston and Slidell, Louisiana before retiring to Mobile Alabama in 1996. Mary Lou’s husband Laurence Sr. passed away in 2007. She is survived by her five children, Lauren Baker and her husband Thomas of Durham, NC, Stephen Bay of Boston, Laurence A. Bay Jr. of Boylston, Brian Bay and his wife Marybeth of Acton and Robert Bay of Slidell, Louisiana; two sisters, Jane Ward of Lincoln, Mass and Adrienne Maxwell of Richmond VA, five grandchildren, Adam Boisvert, Amanda Chastain, Ashley Thomas, Jonah Cheadle and Julia Bay. She was predeceased by a grandson, Robert Alan Monroe Bay. Mary Lou enjoyed reading, history, genealogy and traveling to Hawaii and Europe. She was a special person, dedicated to her family, especially her grandchildren. Loyal to her friends, high school and her college. She was an active member of the UCONN. alumni association and avid Huskies fan. She was a teacher at West Boylston and Slidell, La. school systems. Mary Lou and her husband worked together in many charity organizations. A period of calling hours will be held Monday, August 22nd from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. before departing in procession to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 100 Worcester Road, West Boylston where her mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial next to her husband will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mobile Alabama.
