Walter J. Symonick, 89, formerly of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the Life Care Center of Auburn. His wife, Mary A. (Reedy) Symonick, predeceased him in 1986. Walter is survived by a daughter, Gail Symonick-Chesitis and her husband Stanley of Oxford; two sons, Robert A. Symonick of Worcester, and Steven M. Symonick and his wife Maura of Auburn; a sister, Julia Gover of Millbury; three grandchildren, Michael P. Chesitis, Vanessa M. Symonick, and Claudia R. Symonick; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, Chester Symonaick, Mack Symonick, Anne Brunelle, Sophie Sharrocks, and Jane Mulhearn. He was born in Worcester, son of the late, Anthony and Helen (Ruchwa) Symonick. After graduating from Commerce High School, Walter went on to faithfully serve his nation in the United States Army, during World War II. Walter returned from service and worked hard to raise and support his family. He worked for over thirty-five years at Norton Company, before retiring in the 1980’s. Walter enjoyed bowling and was active in the Norton Company bowling league. He enjoyed baseball and was an umpire for Tom Ash American Legion baseball in Worcester, during the 1970’s. He was an avid New England Sports fan, and loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots. Calling Hours for Walter will be held on Monday, August 8, from 9 a.m. until a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
