Christine (Mattero) Mastrogiacomo, 95, a resident of Shrewsbury for over almost 70 years passed away surrounded by family Sunday, July 31st 2016. Christine was born in Bristol, Rhode Island, one of thirteen children of Italian immigrants Pasquale and Angelina (Bosco) Mattero. As a small child, Christine returned with her family to Vieste, Italy where she grew up immigrating back to Worcester in 1941., In 1946, she married in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Frank Mastrogiacomo; They moved to Shrewsbury to raise their family, and have lived there ever since.. Christine’s husband of 52 years Frank passed away in 1998. She is survived by her three sons Patsy A. Mastrogiacomo and his wife Sandra, Anthony Mastrogiacomo and his wife Debra, and Frank Mastrogiacomo Jr. all of Shrewsbury; three brothers, Augustino Mattero in Vieste, Italy, Vincent and Antonio Mattero of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Caterina Nardella of Shrewsbury and Anna Gentile in Vieste Italy; six grandchildren she dearly loved and cherished, Matthew, Michael, Lisa, Angela, Nicholas and Lauren; 4 great granddaughters, Samantha, Gianna, Audrianna and Aubree; Many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Christine was pre deceased by three brothers, Salvatore, Fredinardo and Gaetano “Guy” Mattero and a sister, Maria Soldano. She was a member of Saint Anne’s church. A typical Italian mother, her husband, and her children always came first in her life no matter what. She was the backbone of the Mastrogiacomo family, always remaining devoted to them. She was a woman who enjoyed the simple things in life; spending time with her family, holidays and family dinners, needlework, and cooking. The delicious Italian delicacies, pizza and cookies she produced made her family as well as the neighborhood children smile. Anyone who entered her home was never able to leave hungry or without taking some for later. She truly believed that faith, family and friends were the most important things in life and had room in her heart for everyone. A period of calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 3rd from 8:30 am to 10:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a procession to St. Anne’s Church 130 Boston Turnpike Rd where her Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial next to her husband will follow in Mt View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the St Anne’s Human Services, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd Shrewsbury. The Mastrogiacomo family would like to thank Dr. McNamee and Addie Lawrence of the Worcester Internal Medicine and the staff, nurses and aides of the Worcester Health Center for the care, comfort and compassion they gave to Christine.
