Lydia (Awad) Merhib Perkins, longtime Worcester resident passed away Friday July 8th 2016 with the family she loves gathered at her bedside. She was 84 years of age. Lydia was born in Worcester December 13, 1931, a daughter of Assad and Freida (David) Awad. She graduated from Commerce High School class of 1950, married, raised her family and has lived here all her life. Lydia is survived by her two daughters, Maureen Merhib Wieloch of Charlton and Carol Merhib Sousa of Worcester; a grandson, David Merhib and his wife Jeanne in New Hampshire; Many nieces, nephews, including Al Arbor, who along with her daughters kept watch and cared for her; extended family members and friends. Lydia was pre deceased by her only son Robert Merhib in 2003, her former husband, Tony Merhib on May 27th, her second Husband, Hampton Perkins, four sisters, Olga Arbor, Louise Lawrence, Alma Salem and Pauline Cicero, and two brothers, Alfred and George Awad. Lydia loved people and worked all her life in service to them. Lydia along with her former husband Tony owned and operated Leonard’s TV for many years. She then accepted a position as Rental Manager for Corcoran Management, and then as Property Manager for Robbins Management. In retirement Lydia worked as hostess greeting people for twelve years at the Piccadilly Pub on Shrewsbury Street. Lydia was an avid Red Sox fan since childhood. She attended as many games as she could, watching every game on TV and culminating when she was able to take a picture holding the World Series Trophy. All of Lydia’s life, her children and family came first. She devoted her life to others. Beautiful in nature, Lydia enjoyed the simple pleasures of spending time with her children, sisters and extended family members and had room in her heart for everyone. She will be sorely missed. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Wednesday, July 13th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral service will be held, Thursday, July 14th at 11:00 am in the funeral home.
