Jacqueline E. (Holmes) Scott, 83, a wonderful and caring person, of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at UMass Hospital. Her loving and devoted husband, Ronald E. Scott, predeceased her in 1989. Jacqueline is survived by her beloved children, Ronald “Scotty” Scott and his wife Lisa Darling, Keith “Kiki” Scott, Daryl Scott, Barry K. Scott, Rhonda Scott, and Lertie Gomes, all of Worcester, Rowena McCoy and her husband Ricky of Geneva, NY, and Cindy Brown of Fall River; her God-daughter, Phyllis “Mitzi” Alston of Worcester: twenty-eight grandchildren; many great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Anita Gomes, as well as two sisters, Dorothy Pitts and Lucille Johnson. Jacqueline was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Richard A. and Ellen A. (Price) Holmes, she has lived here all her life. Jacqueline dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a devoted wife and mother, not only to her own children, but to one hundred and five foster children, as well. She knew, from an early age that she wanted to be a mother and a nurturer. She was a life-long member of Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church, and served as Trustee, Treasurer, and on the Women’s Oversea Missionary Board. She enjoyed bowling and had played in a bowling league as a young woman. While at home caring for her family, she enjoyed soap operas like, “Search for Tomorrow”, “The Edge of Night”, and “As The World Turns”. She was proud to say that she was the daughter in law of Worcester’s first African-American City Councilor, Charles E. Scott. Calling Hours for Jacqueline will be held on Monday morning, July 11, in Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church, 33 Illinois Street, Worcester, from 9 a.m. until the commencement of her Funeral Service at 11 a.m., presided by The Reverend Clyde D. Talley. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
