Carrie Mae (Bailey) Johnson, 60 of Worcester, formerly of New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Rose Monahan Hospice Residence.Carrie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Leroy Johnson; her son, Elgin Johnson; three daughters, Roberta Nelson and Rebecca Johnson all of Worcester and Latricia Vancelette of Rutland; three brothers, Preston Spruill and Terry Bowser both of North Carolina and James H. Bailey, III. of Worcester; three sisters, Ethel Bailey, Darlene Harris and Lucinda Griffin-Moore all of Worcester; seventeen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her good friend, Sherriel D. Lewis of Worcester. She is predeceased by her son, Eric Lee Johnson whom passed away on May 15, 2016.Carrie was born in South Fallsburg, New York, a daughter to the late James Henry Bailey and Ethel (Gibbs) Anfield. She worked for 24 years in service to the City of Worcester as a Dispatch Supervisor for the Department of Emergency Communication. She was a devoted member of John Street Baptist Church where she was a dedicated usher, a member of the churches bereavement committee, the virtuous women of excellence and the thanksgiving basket ministry. Carrie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, coworker and friend. She loved nothing more than bringing people together and helping those in need. Carrie was a center piece of family life. She spent hours learning, perfecting and sharing recipes that kept family traditions alive. Carrie was an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her and will be missed dearly.A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 9-11:30 a.m. with her Celebration of Life service immediately following at 11:30 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.
