Mary J. Lavanga,95, formerly of Plum St., died peacefully Saturday May 28, 2016 in the Knollwood Nursing Center. Mary leaves many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by all her brothers and sisters; John and Joseph Lavanga, Antoinette Lavanga, Angelina Laganelli, Catherine Prizio, and Lucy Bombredi. Mary was born in Worcester daughter of the late Vito and Filomena (Auciello) Lavanga, and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of David Hale Fanning Worcester Girls Trade School. Mary worked at the former Worcester City Hospital as a Radiology Stenographer for 40 years before she retired. She was a life communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann. She was a member of the Golden Years club at Mt. Carmel, and the San Vitalian Women’s Society. Mary enjoyed going to bingo at the Seven Hills Foundation were she volunteered for many years. She loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of the Knollwood Nursing Center for their kindness and compassion shown to Mary and her family during her stay there. It was truly appreciated. Mary’s funeral will be held on Thursday June 2, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30AM in the Church of Our Lady of Loreto 33 Massasoit Rd. A period of visitation with the family will be held from 9AM to 10AM in the funeral home prior to leaving for Church. Interment will be in the family lot at St. Johns Cemetery.
