Margaret L. "Peggy" (Turco) Simoncini, 90, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at The Knollwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her husband of sixty-four years, Alfred A. Simoncini, predeceased her in 2011. Margaret is survived by three daughters, Honorable Judge Deborah A.S. Capuano and her husband John, Denise E. Pappas and her husband John T., and Doreen L. Quatela and her husband Anthony, all of Worcester; five grandchildren, Dr. John J. Giordano DMD, Tara M. Quatela, Lee M. Pappas, Anthony C. Quatela, III, and Mark A. Pappas; a great grandson, Maverick M. Pappas; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by eight sisters and two brothers, Mary Fortunado, Christina Masiello, Yolanda Consiglio, Rose Ricardi, Raffaella Bogigian, Nancy Giocobba, Dorothy Locantore, Anna Porcaro, Henry Turco, and Charles Turco. Margaret was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Giuseppe and Bombina (Terranova) Turco. She graduated from Worcester Girl’s Trade School and Leo’s Beauty Institute. Margaret retired from UMass Hospital, where she worked for several years. She had previously enjoyed a long career as a hairdresser working at Barnard’s Hair Salon and Imperial House of Beauty in Worcester and Mr. Richard’s Salon in Shrewsbury. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. Margaret enjoyed the trips she took to Italy with her husband and daughters. She also traveled with her husband on business trips around the United States, and he lovingly referred to her as his “ambassador”. Margaret was devoted to her family. It is with a loving smile and heart felt gratitude that they can say that Margaret welcomed friends and family into her home, where they shared great food, laughter, and much love. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care that she received at The Summit ElderCare and The Knollwood Nursing Center and extend their thanks to the loving, nurturing staff who became her second family. Calling Hours for Margaret will be held on Wednesday, May 11, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A cortege will depart the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. in procession for an 11 a.m. Mass at Saint John’s Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester. The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in her memory to The Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
