Aurora G. (D’Auria) Fusaro, 85, of Worcester, a devoted mother and dedicated friend passed away in the arms of her daughters Monday, April 11th 2016. Aurora was born in San Giacomo, province of Acri Cosenza, Italy a daughter of Pasquale and Vincenzina (Abbruzzese) D’Auria. She grew up in San Giacomo, and married her sweetheart Mario V. Fusaro in August of 1954. Shortly thereafter at the age of 25, a new bride she immigrated to the United States like so many others passing through Ellis island and making her new home in Worcester with her husband to raise their family. She has lived here ever since. Aurora’s husband of 31 years, Mario passed away in 1985. She is survived by her five daughters, Dr. Marie Fusaro of Bolton; Carol Fusaro and her husband George Mulvey of Belmont, Lisa Scanlon and her husband James of Dudley, Roberta Fusaro and her husband Jonathan Skillings of Marlboro, Maria Fusaro and her husband John Hnatyshyn of Ottawa, Canada; a brother, Giuseppe D’Auria; two sisters, Rosa and Maria D’Auria all in Italy; six grandchildren, James, Patrick and Kevin Scanlon, Matthew and Anthony Skillings and Katherine Hnatyshyn; Nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Son in laws, Jonathan Golden in 2001 and Robert Davis in 2002 and a sister, Armenia D’Auria all predeceased her. Aurora a traditional women of Italian heritage, believed that faith, family and their welfare came first. Her husband, Children, and grandchildren were the most important things in her life. Having them around her as she cooked for them at family dinners, holidays and special occasions, teaching them Italian and watching them grow were the things that made her smile. Her unwavering faith kept her grounded and helped her family through life’s challenges. Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts but her loving and caring soul will not be forgotten. Aurora worked in the cafeterias of Worcester East Middle and Belmont Street Elementary schools for the City of Worcester School Department before retiring. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, its Golden Years and Christian Mothers Associations. The Worcester Lodge 168, Sons of Italy, its Bocce league and the Beato, Angelo, de Acri Society. Aurora enjoyed golden year’s bus trips, the occasional visit to the casino and entertaining by having everyone in her home. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Wednesday, April 13th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street. Her funeral will be held Thursday, April 14th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the Sons of Italy lodge 168, P.O.
