Carey J. Macaruso

Carey J. Macaruso, 85 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Saint Vincent’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Carey is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Roberta M. (McNamara) Macaruso; two sons, Richard Macaruso and Steven Macaruso and his wife Erin; a daughter, Carrie Christian and her husband Kevin all of Worcester; six grandchildren, Katelyn Cifone, Brian, Olivia and Casey Macaruso, Maurice “Moe” and Ryan Christian; three great grandchildren, Camden Caron, Raegan Christian and Henley Cifone; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Joseph and Anthony Macaruso. Carey was born in Worcester, a son of the late Anthony and Antonina (Cafferelli) Macaruso. He worked as a foreman for the George Myer Company before he retired.  After retirement, he was a crossing guard for the City of Worcester, Wawecus Rd. School where he received the Thomas Jefferson Award.  Carey is a former member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed doing craftsman and handyman projects. Services for Carey will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.  A period of calling hours will be held on Friday morning from 9-10 am in the funeral home prior to departure for his funeral mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: American Diabetes Association, P.O.
