Helen R. (Stomski) Borko, of Shrewsbury, went home to be with the Lord on her 100th birthday, Monday, February 22, 2016 at Christopher House surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born on February 22, 1916, a daughter to the late polish immigrants, Anthony and Josephine (Kaminski) Stomski. She graduated from Commerce High School and grew up in Worcester. She later moved to Shrewsbury where she had lived for the past 60 years. Helen was a legal secretary for Fusaro Brothers Law Firm, a cashier at Iandoli’s Supermarket for many years and a seamstress for various area businesses before she retired. Helen was a member of Saint Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury where she was very active in church, was a member of the church choirs, the alter guild and the women’s guild. She also was a member of the Senior Center in Shrewsbury and the “Busy Hands” group where she would knit soft and warm items for charity. Helen enjoyed country painting and became an accomplished oil artist, various hand crafts, gardening and was very proud of her polish heritage. Helen’s husband of 51 years, John S. Borko passed away in 1990. She leaves behind her two daughters, Carol Ann Borko of Worcester and Susan Williams and her husband David A. Williams of Rutland; three grandchildren, David T. Williams of Rutland, Heather Kimball of Millbury and Holly Williams and her fiancé Christopher Doyle of Ashland; three great grandchildren, Lily and Allison Kimball of Millbury and Zachary Doyle of Ashland; many nieces and nephew. Helen is predeceased by her grandson, Nathaniel Williams; three brothers, Henry, Chester and Stanley Stomski; five sisters, Theresa Desautelle, Florence Jaworski, Rita Stomski, Annette Trepanowski and Jeannette Capalbo. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all the staff at the Christopher House for the care and compassion they gave Helen during her time of need. Services for Helen will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. A period of calling hours will be held on Friday morning from 9-10:30 am in the funeral home prior to her funeral mass.
