Irene (Gagnon) Jolicoeur of Westborough, a lovely and lively lady, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 18th 2016 at the remarkable age of 103, after a brief illness. Irene was the second of eight children born to Arthur and Rose (Turcotte) Gagnon. She was born, raised, and lived most of her life in Worcester. Her beloved husband of 54 years, Aime Jolicoeur, died in 1988. Irene has lived in Westborough since 2003. Irene is survived by the family she loved: her four children, Roger Jolicoeur and his wife Patricia of Southborough, Paul Jolicoeur of Sausalito, CA, Ronald Jolicoeur and his wife Sara of Shrewsbury and Lois Caputo and her husband David of Hubbardston; a sister, Yvette Jolicoeur of Worcester; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Irene was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Westborough, and a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes and of St. Joseph’s Church in Worcester. She was a beautiful person who enjoyed the simple things in life to the very end: spending time with her family and friends, family dinners, playing bridge and Scrabble, crossword puzzles and reading. She believed that faith, family and friends were the most important things in life and had room in her heart for all. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours Monday, February 22nd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St. in Worcester. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, February 23rd from the funeral home, with a procession to Our Lady of Lourdes church, 1290 Grafton St. where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am.
