Louis J. “Butch" Calcagni, 69, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016, at Saint Vincent Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Donna E. (Occhialini) Calcagni; three sons, Scott Calcagni and his wife Lisa, Jeff Calcagni, and Jason Calcagni and his wife Maria R. Calcagni, all of Worcester; a sister Marie Gurnick and her husband Joe of Homestead, Florida; six grandchildren, Madison, Abbi, Logan, Zac, Jordyn, and Jayden; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two cherished grandchildren, Scott and Sydni. Butch was born in Worcester, son of the late Francis X. and Marianna J. (Laganelli) Calcagni, and has lived here all his life. He served his nation proudly in the United States Navy.Butch, as he was known to his family and friends, loved to be with his family and enjoyed being surrounded by them all the time. His family members were his friends and he enjoyed every moment spent with those he held close to his heart; and had great pride in watching his grandchildren grow and participate in sporting events. Butch was known as the family “handy man” because he could often be found studying a problem and tinkering his way toward a solution, whether around the house or on a car in the driveway, not necessarily his own. He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church. He retired from Hanover Insurance in 2006, as the Director of Loss Control.Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday morning, February 10, in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., before departing in procession to an 11 a.m. Mass, celebrated by his nephew, Fr. Nicholas Desimone, at his parish church, Our Lady of Loreto, 33 Massasoit Road, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
