Josephine "Josie" Roy

April 30, 1916 — January 6, 2016

Josephine (Loconto) Roy, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 6th 2015 with devoted family members gathered by her side.   She would have celebrated her 100th birthday in April.    Josephine was born in Worcester, the daughter of Italian immigrants Paul and Savaria (Riccio) Loconto.   She graduated from Commerce High School and Quinsigamond Community College. She has lived here all her life.   Josie worked many years for the Bay State Savings Bank in Worcester as assistant branch manager at Mill St and Burncoat Street before retiring. Josephine’s husband Louis Roy, Sr. passed away in 1987,   She is survived by the family she dearly loved and cherished; Her children, Paul Roy and his wife Linda of Winthrop, Louis Roy Jr and his wife Marie of West Boylston, Sandra McFadden and her husband Richard of Auburn, Michael Roy of Oxford, Robert Roy and his wife Nancy, James Roy and his wife Kathleen Elia; a brother, Pat Loconto of Worcester; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren;  Many nieces, nephews, extended family members , and countless friends.   Her son, Richard Roy passed away in 2001, two grandchildren Emily and Anthony Roy, a brother Michael Loconto and daughter in law, Rose Ellen Roy all pre deceased her.  Josie was an active member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel church, its women’s guild, golden years, Our Lady of Sorrows and Italian Cultural Center Organizations.  Josie was also a member of the Worcester Lodge #168, Order Sons of Italy in America, the RSVP and Nutrition program advisory board at the Worcester Senior Center, and the 50 Shrewsbury Street Building Association.   In her life family always came first, no matter what.  She was devoted to them especially her grandchildren who fondly called her “Noni”. Josie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; spending time with her family and friends, family dinners, her Tuesday golden year’s friends and visiting with friends at 50 Shrewsbury St.   She truly believed that faith, family and friends were the most important things in life and lived them every day.   Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts but her loving and caring soul will not be forgotten. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours Friday, January 8th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the  MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Saturday, January 9th from the funeral home with a procession to her beloved Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. where Monsignor Stephen Pedone and Father Charles Monroe will celebrate her Mass at 10:00 am.   Burial next to her husband Louis will follow in St. John Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St.
