Anthony P. Guitarini, 77, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, December 2nd 2015 after a period of declining health. Tony was born in Worcester one of three children of Louis and Mary (Paciello) Guitarini. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School where he was a standout football player. Anthony then entered the U.S. Air Force serving the United States proudly during the early stages of Vietnam. Upon his return to Worcester, he met and in 1958, at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church married the “Love of his Life” Shirley Sbrogna. Together they enjoyed the next 57 years in love, devotion and family. Tony worked as a corrections officer for the Worcester County House of Corrections, many years retiring as a Lieutenant. He also worked with his father and brother as a Brick & Stone Mason for Louis Guitarini Masonry. Tony is survived by his wife Shirley: his two children, Elaine M. Heller and her husband Mark of Worcester, and Mark S. Guitarini of San Diego, California; a brother, Francis Guitarini of Worcester; three grandchildren, Ryan, Dylan and Lauren Riggieri; Nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents, a sister Dolores Guitarini pre deceased him. Tony was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. He was also a horse enthusiast, owning with his brother several sulkies race horses, competing in the New England Area and beyond. He was an avid sports enthusiast, following with great interest the New England Patriots and New York Yankees. In Tony’s life, his wife, children and grandchildren always came first no matter what. He was the backbone of his family and remained devoted to them especially his beautiful grandchildren. He was a beautiful person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; spending time with family and friends, family dinners, and special occasions. Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours, Saturday, December 5th from 8:30 to 10am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St before processing to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am.
