Nikolaos Syrmis, 84 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Care One at Millbury surrounded by his loving family. Nikolaos' wife of 25 years, Efrosini (Tsibirlis) Syrmis passed away on July 6, 1988. He is survived by his two sons, Chris Surmis and his wife Jenifer of Auburn and Peter Syrmis and his wife Jennifer of Ashland; his daughter, Barbara Kreouzis and her husband Kostas of Athens, Greece; his brother, Vageli Syrmis of Athens, Greece; four grandchildren, Nikos and Basili Kreouzis and Alex and Isabella Surmis; a great granddaughter, Efrosini. He is predeceased by a brother, George Syrmis; two sisters, Barbara Pellegrini and Stasa Tabakis. Nikolaos was born in Piraeus, Greece, a son of the late Panayotis and Stamatia (Yakoutzi) Syrmis. Born and raised in Greece, Nikolaos grew up during World War II. At the age of 11, the Nazi's invaded Greece and alongside his siblings they were survivors. He was very proud of that and during many of his conversations with family and friends it was a topic he would discuss. He also served his country in the Greek Army during the Korean War. Nikolaos immigrated to America and settled in Worcester in 1970. He then started Brother's Pizza in Whitinsville where he was the owner for 15 years. He also worked alongside his son Chris at Royal House of Pizza in Millbury for many years. Nikolaos was a member of Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the AHEPA Organization at church. Services for Nikolaos will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will be held privately. A period of calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 17th from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
