Julianne Turo

November 11, 1925 — November 9, 2015

Julianne "Julie" B. (Jakaitis) Turo, 89, of Shrewsbury and West Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2015 at her home in Shrewsbury, as was her wish. Born in Worcester on November 11, 1925 Julie was just two days shy of her 90th birthday. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Marcella (Dumalakyte) Jakaitis. She was married her husband, Joseph "Joe" A. Turo, in 1950, and they enjoyed 50 wonderful years together raising their family until Joe's death in 2000. Julie is survived by her son, Thomas Turo and his wife, Susan, of Winter Park, Florida, her daughter, Janice Morello and her husband, John, of Worcester and her daughter-in-law, Emily Turo, of Chicago, Illinois. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Matthew Morello, Christopher Turo, Angela Case and her husband, Gregory, great-granddaughter, Josephine Case, her brother, Daniel Jakaitis and his wife, MaryAnn, of Worcester, many nieces and nephews and her feline companion, Lucy. She is predeceased by her son, John Turo, who died in 1998. Julie graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and worked at the former Peoples Savings Bank for many years until retiring. She was a life-long member of the former St. Casmir's Church where she loved her faith and church and devoted many hours of her time as bookkeeper until its closing. She enjoyed cooking and treasured time spent with her family. She loved to go dancing with Joe and was happiest when relaxing at Sea Gull Beach on Cape Cod. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Notre Dame Hospice nurse, Jackie, and caregivers, Fidelis, Lucy, Mary and Pauline of Carol Seager Associates for their kind, gentle and loving support of Julie at the end of her life. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Julie's family on Thursday, November 12th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street. Her funeral will be celebrated Friday, November 13th from the funeral home with a procession to St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd., Shrewsbury, MA, where her funeral Mass will be held at ____. Her former Pastor and friend, Reverend Richard Jakabauskas will be principal celebrant. Burial next to her husband, Joseph, and son, John, will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Rd, Worcester MA 01604.
