John R. Baril, of Southbridge, formerly of Worcester passed away peacefully Friday, October 23, 2015 surrounded by his family. John was born in Drummondville, Canada, one of 5 children of Lionel J. and Gabrielle (Robert) Baril. John and his family moved to the United States when John was a young child, settling in Worcester where he grew up and graduated from High School. John then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving his country proudly during the Korean War. Upon his return to Worcester, John accepted a position with the Raytheon Corporation. He worked there until he founded the Baril Oil Company where he served as President for more than 25 years before retiring. In the late fifties, John met Josephine A. Malcangi and in 1959 they were married. For the next 56 1/2 years, John and Josephine enjoyed their life together raising their four children with loved and devotion. John is survived by his wife Josephine; his three children, John Baril of Millbury, Robert Baril and his wife Dalaine of Sturbridge, and Rozlyn Davis and her fiancée Dmetrios Abbott of Southbridge; a sister, Frances Darling and brother Paul Baril; one granddaughter he cherished, Madison Baril; Nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. A daughter, Kathy Baril passed as a young child, brother Lionel "Shubby" Baril and sister, Jacqueline Springhorn also pre deceased him. John and Josephine loved to travel and did so extensively in their RV, across the country several times, finding the State of Alaska their favorite. For a time, their lived in Nevada during the colder months. John's funeral will be held Wednesday, October 28th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a procession to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St where his Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial in Worcester County Memorial Park will be private. A period of calling hours will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am prior to departing for mass.
