Victor Negron Ocasio

Victor Negron Ocasio, 101 years of age, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 22, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Victor a native of Villalba, Puerto Rico, was born July 1, 1914, a son of Higinio and Maria (Ocasio) Negron. He grew up in Puerto Rico, married Maria Padilla, and together began to raise their family with love before Maria passed away after 59 years of marriage. As his children immigrated to the United States, Victor and Maria would travel back and forth from Puerto Rico to visit family until deciding to make the U.S. his permanent home in 1986. In Puerto Rico, Victor's career consisted of farming, construction work, and also worked with the State of Puerto Rico Agricultural department until retiring. Victor leaves behind his four children whom he dearly loved, Yolanda Negron, and Virginia Negron, both in Puerto Rico, Herminio Negron and Tomasita Burgos both in Worcester; his grandson whom he helped raise and thought of as a son, Hector Rosario and his wife Carmen Lopez; 15 grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Victor was the last surviving child of twelve. Victor was a member of St. Peters Church. He loved music, especially old Spanish country music known as "musica Jibara", he also sang and played the guitar. He enjoyed musical improvisation and his special brandy Felipe II daily. He was a huge Red Sox fan all his life. Last year, when he turned 100, the Worcester Telegram did an article on his life and celebrating 100 years. He especially loved his family and friends and cherished the moments they were around him on special days and the holidays. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family during calling hours, Sunday, October 25th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Monday, October 27th from the funeral home with a procession to St Peters Church, 931 Main St. where his funeral will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to St. Peters Church, 931 Main Street 01610.
