Longtime Shrewsbury resident Leonard A. DiPinto, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Monday October 5th 2015. Leonard joins in heaven the love of his life, Angelina (Monopoli) DiPinto who passed away January 7th. Leo, was born in Worcester to Italian parents Francesco & Caroline (Musci) DiPinto. He was raised a part of the Italian section of Worcester "Shrewsbury Street". In 1946, shortly after High school, Leo joined the U.S. Army serving his country proudly as a Combat Engineer. Upon his discharge from the service, Leo met and in 1951 in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church married the woman whom became his devoted wife for the next 64 years, Angelina "Eileen" Monopoli. They moved to Shrewsbury, settling in their Plainfield Ave home raising their family with love, devotion and family for the next 64 years. Handy with his hands, Leo accepted a position as a window installer for Modern Manufacturing, where he worked for over 20 years, before moving to the maintenance department of the Worcester Housing Authority where he retired after 12 years. Leo could repair most anything; He had a solution for most problems or concerns, his family even nicknamed him "Pat Pending" for his ability to come up with unique fixes. Leonard's wife Eileen passed away January 7, of 2015. He is survived by four cherished sons, and their wives whom he loved; Frank A. DiPinto and his wife Marylee, Mauro R. DiPinto and his wife Jean all of Shrewsbury, Leonard "Len" DiPinto Jr. and his wife Kathleen and Carl E. DiPinto and his wife Cynthia all of Grafton; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends. Besides his wife, Leo was predeceased by a brother Vito and sisters, Angelina Sherman and Frances DiPinto. A true and devoted husband and father; Leo's wife, his children and grandchildren were his life. The happiest moments in his life were those spent with Eileen and their family. The weekly Sunday family dinners at home, the holidays and the other special times they were together were special. Leo was a member of St Anne's Church, the Italian American Victory Club, Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus and the Beach Buggy Association. He loved to travel and fish, especially salt water and striped Bass fishing. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, October 7, 2015, 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Thursday morning from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:00 am in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Road. Burial next to his beloved Eileen and with Military Honors will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the VNA Care, Rose Monahan Hospice residence, 120 Thomas Street Worcester 01608.
