Palma D. (DiBaro) Ostergard, 89, of New Braintree, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her husband Irving P. Ostergard, predeceased her in 1970. Palma is survived by four daughters, Robin Powers and her husband Paul of Holden, Susan Erickson of Worcester, Nancy Ostergard of Worcester and Sally Fiske and her husband Jeffery of New Braintree; five grandchildren, Matthew and Brock Erickson, Paul Powers III, Alexander and Kayla Fiske; a sixth grandchild, her grandson, Taylor Powers predeceased her on January 10, 2015. She is also survived by a brother, Michael; six sisters, Michelina, Bibi, Antoinette, Jean, Joyce, and Donna; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Domenic and Sonny DiBaro. Born in Worcester, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (DiStefano) DiBaro, she lived much of her life in Holden. Never being one to simply relax at an age where many would retire, she set out to design and build herself an A-Frame home in New Braintree, where she could take care of her youngest grandson, Alexander, where he was born. She cherished that yard and took to her land and built a pond and had wonderful flower gardens. She was affectionately known as "The Flower Lady", by her family, friends, and neighbors. She loved life and adored her family, she found her grandchildren to be a wonderful gift of "second set of kids". She was proud of her country and happy to share her stories of having worked during World War II for Handi-Pad Company in Worcester, making bandages for our members of the Armed Services of the Unites States. There are no calling hours and the family is following her wishes by simply remembering her in a loving way. To honor the love she had for flowers and this wonderful land, the family has requested that flower be omitted and donations in her memory be made to Tower Hill Botanical Garden in Boylston by mailing to Tower Hill Botanic Garden, ATTN: Development/Memorial, P.O. Box 598, Boylston, MA 01505 or by visiting their web-site at www.towerhillbg.com.
