Joseph S. Mele, 96, Of Worcester died peacefully Saturday September 5, 2015 in the St. Francis Home surrounded by his loving family. His wife Rose (Riccardi) Mele died October 24, 2006, Joseph is survived by his two daughters, Sandy (Alesandria) M. Flynn and her husband Paul of Webster, and Joanne S Moloney and her husband Kevin of Millbury, his grandchildren, Joseph Flynn, Paula Flynn- Lavallee and her husband Jonathan, Andrew Flynn and his wife Jesslyn and Michael and Erin Moloney, also two great grandchildren, Emily and Taylor and another great grandchild on the way Jonathan Joseph. Joe also leaves his sisters Antoinette Raddi, and Dolores Bourn and her husband Robert, several nephews and nieces. Joseph was born in Worcester son of the late Alessandro and Rose (Bovenzi) Mele and lived here all his life. He attended Worcester Schools. Joseph was a Veteran of WWll and served his country proudly in the United States Army. He was stationed overseas and fought in Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Among other awards he received a Liberation Medal with one bronze star. Upon returning to Worcester he began working for the Worcester School Department as a Custodian and was a supervisor when he retired. He also was employed by the former Spag's Supply store in Shrewsbury for 40 years, a job he really enjoyed. Joseph was a life member of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann. He was a long time Member and Officer of the San Vitaliano Men's Society. The Italian American Drum Corp, the East Side Post # 201 American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans Post#4, and also the East Side Improvement Club. He loved working around his house always doing something, his lawn and shrubs were always meticulous. However his most treasured times were those spent with his daughters, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Joseph s funeral will be held Wednesday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00PM to 8:00PM in the funeral home. Entombment with his wife will be in St. Johns' Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers contributions would be appreciated to the Renovation Fund of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Worcester MA. 01605.
