Thomas K. Steele, 72, of Sutton, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at UMass Hospital with his much loved family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years Marie C. (Rossi) Steele; two daughters, Patricia M. Otto of Sutton, and Sharon M. Magner and her husband Robert A. Magner, Sr., of Sutton; a brother, John L. Steele of West Warwick, RI; three grandchildren, Robert A. and Raymond A. Magner of Sutton, and Christopher T. Otto of Sutton; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son in law, Timothy Otto. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, son of Louis and Phyllis (Gregory) Steele and has lived in Sutton since 1969. Tom spent the majority of his career helping and serving the people of his community. He began by serving the Town of Sutton as a Police Officer, later opening Tom's Variety Store and the Sutton Center Store, where he interacted with and got connected to his customers and their families. He later sold the stores and joined the Worcester County Sherriff's Department, serving as a Correctional Officer, before retiring in 1991 due to injury. He was a member of Saint Mark's Catholic Church in Sutton and was a member of The Morningstar Lodge of Masons. Tom loved to spend time with his family and found great joy taking his grandchildren fishing on his boat. Calling Hours for Tom will be held on Wednesday, September 2, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, September 3, departing the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. with a procession to Saint Mark's Church, 356 Boston Road, Sutton.
