George M. Papaz

George "Pappy" Papaz, 85, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on August 23rd surrounded by his family and friends at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. He was the devoted husband of Ellen (Spain) Papaz for 61 years and was predeceased by his son David in 1993 and his brother Malcolm in 2003. In addition to his wife Ellen, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Michael and Jane Papaz of Westborough and Susan and Jeffrey Hutchinson of Sanford, FL; his granddaughters Meryl and Jenna Papaz; his sister Rachael Stephens; and many nieces and nephews. A lifelong resident of Worcester, he was born on December 15, 1929 and graduated from Commerce High School in 1948. He was an automobile mechanic for many years and later worked for the VNA Care Network in Worcester, retiring in 2008. In his retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors especially working in his garden and was an avid Boston sports fan. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 30th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester MA. A memorial service for George will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, MA 01602.
