Joseph M. Fortunato,98, of Worcester died peacefully Monday August 24, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 74 years Margaret N. (Tomaiolo) Fortunato, a son Joseph M. Fortunato Jr. and his wife Susan of Millbury, a daughter Mary M. Fortunato-Habib of Paxton,and his son in law Rudolf Arn. seven grandchildren; Paul P. Lombardi and his wife Sheryl, Michael J. Lombardi and his wife Crystal, Nicholas J. Fortunato and his wife Jodi, Peter J. Fortunato and his wife Heather, Joseph M. Fortunato lll and his wife Daniele, Nicolette L. Habib and Krystina M. Habib. Joseph also leaves his great grandchildren; Emily Anthony, Sofia, Michael, Giuliana, Angelo, Joseph lV, Michela, Enzo,and Madaline, along with nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his loving daughter and son in law, Madaline R. Arn and Joseph M. Habib. He was also predeceased by a brother Rocco Fortunato, and two sisters Theresa Fortunato and Mary Falco. Joseph was born in Worcester son of the late Vito and Rosalie(Perrone) Fortunato and lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Commerce High School, and served his country proudly during WWll in the Army. He served in Belgium and France during the war in the Anti Aircraft Auto Weapons Division. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 36 years before he retired. Joseph was a life member of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann where he served as an usher for many years, and was also the vice president of their Holy Name Society for many years. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Golden Years Club, and American Legion Post # 201 East Side. For many years he was the organizer for the Miraculous Medal Novena's At Our Lady of Mt. Carmel St. Ann Church. He attended the weekly meetings at the Veterans Center. Joseph enjoyed being outdoors and was a very active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann church. He loved a good day at the Casino with Margaret and being with his friends. However his most treasured times were those spent with his family especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of 33 South at St. Vincent Hospital and also the Infusion Center. Their compassion and professional concern for Joe and his family is truly appreciated. Joseph s funeral will be held on Friday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4PM to8PM in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Renovation Fund for the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann at the above address. Or the Disabled American Veterans Association.
