Virginia (Roncaglione) Courtney, 90 of Charlton, formerly a Kinglet Dr. Shrewsbury resident, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, July 27th 2015. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert R. Courtney, on November 17, 2004. She is survived by her devoted family, Michael L. Courtney of Tewksbury, M. Susan McGuigan and her husband David of Charlton; three granddaughters, Pamela and her husband Michael, Meghan and her husband Bryan, and Caitlin; two grandsons, James and Sean; and four great grandchildren; Connor, Joseph, Jonathan and Addison. Virginia also leaves two sisters, Lillian Bazzle of Williamsburg W.Va and Betty Bell of Ft Lauderdale FL; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides her husband Robert, three brothers John, Howard and John Roncaglione pre deceased her. She was born in Oakhill, West Virginia, one of six children of Louis and Hazel (Burgess) Roncaglione. She graduated from Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia, and earned her bachelor's degree with honors from Concord College in Athens W.VA., where she met her husband. Virginia then earned her Master's degree in Music from West Virginia University. She began her career as a member of the Bluefield W.Va. Symphony Orchestra and upon moving to Shrewsbury, became a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools and substitute teacher in Shrewsbury before retiring. Virginia then volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital and the University of Massachusetts Hospital. Virginia was a member of St Anne's Church, an enthusiastic golfer and member of Strawberry Hills Golf Club in Leicester and Brookridge Country Club in Overland Park Kansas. Virginia was also an avid bridge player and member of several area bridge clubs. All about family, nothing was more important to Virginia than her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their wellbeing was the foremost interest in her life and having them around her on holidays, special occasions and family dinners were the times that made her happiest. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Wednesday, July 29th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be celebrated Thursday, July 30th from the funeral home with a procession to the church of St. Anne, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd Shrewsbury where Rev. Paul O'Connell will preside over her Mass at 11:00 am. Burial next to her husband will follow in Mt. View Cemetery.
