William H Brophy

William H. Brophy, 87, of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Saint Vincent Hospital, with his loving family at his bedside. William is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Bertha D. (Aguiar) Brophy; a son, Stephen M. Brophy and his wife Katherine of Auburn and their children, Brian and Katie; four daughters, Deborah A. Detwiler of Sandwich; Pamela S. Colby and her husband John of Shrewsbury, Brenda L. Maruca and her husband Anthony of Worcester, and their children, Nicholas, Kimberly, and Allyson; and Laurie Zinkus of Grafton and her children, Tracey, Rachel, Jennifer, and Jillian; seven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A sister Cathy Letendre of Florida. William was born in Somerville, son of the late Albert C.D. and Miriam E. (Fish) Brophy. He served his nation proudly in the United States Army. William worked for many years as a retail buyer for Rich Department Stores and Forrest Hills Distributors. He had previously been the manager at the former F.W. Woolworth Store on Front Street in Worcester. He was a member of the American Legion Eastside Post 201. He was a long-time flea market retailer and enjoyed playing poker with a good cigar.. He was an avid New England Patriots fan. Funeral Services for William are being held privately. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, is assisting his family with arrangements.
