Reverend C. Richard Risas, 83, of Worcester went home to the Lord peacefully Thursday July 23 2015 at home with his loved ones around him. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Lila (Karakey) Risas, and his two sons, C. Richard Risas Jr. and his wife Dawn of Punta Gorda Florida, and Wayne E. Risas and his wife Allison of Shrewsbury. Richard also leaves his loving grandchildren; Ashleigh, Molly, Eric, Evan, and Kristen; and great grandchildren Noah and Delilah. He also leaves several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, John Risas and William Westberg, and a sister Ellen Indusi. Reverend Risas was born in Worcester son of the late John and Helen (Mattson) Risas. He served his Country proudly in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean conflict. Upon returning from the service he worked many years in the tool and die industry. He received his calling and became the founder and Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Shrewsbury, which is now known as the Chapel on the Hill, Shrewsbury. He later became the Director of Missions for the Massachusetts Baptist Association. After retiring he served as the Interim Pastor of the Mendon Baptist Church, Chapel on the Hill and several other local churches. Reverend Risas was a member of the American Legion Post #319 in Greendale, and he also served as the Chaplain for the Worcester Veterans Council. He loved helping people and serving his congregation. He also loved being with his family, and he will be sadly missed. Most importantly he did serve his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, preaching the gospel and loving his neighbors. A funeral service for Reverend Risas will be held on Tuesday July 28, in the Chapel on the Hill, 145 Memorial Drive (Rt. 140) Shrewsbury at 11:30AM. A time of visitation with the family will be held from 10AM until the time of service at 11:30AM in the church. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery.
