Alfred J "Freddie" Sacco, 87, of Worcester, passed away at home surrounded by his family Monday, June 8th 2015. Freddie a dedicated family man was born in Worcester, one of three sons of Italian immigrants Joseph and Pasqua (Martocci) Sacco. He grew up in a Italian neighborhood off Shrewsbury Street; graduated from Commerce High and joined the U.S. Army during World War II to serve his country. Upon his discharge from the service he received The Victory Medal. He then returned to the city and began a career as a chef for various restaurants in the Worcester area. In 1954, Freddie married the women who became the love of his life and devoted wife for the next 61 years, Mary P. "Pat" Nugent. They settled in Worcester where they built a life of love and devotion raising their family. Shortly after his marriage, Freddie, accepted a position as foreman for the Worcester County Hospital for the next 25 years before retiring in 1980. Freddie was never one to sit around, so after retirement from the county he accepted a position at Verizon where he worked for the last 20 years. All who knew him loved him; he had a personality like no other. Besides his wife Mary "Pat", Freddie is survived by his three sons, Joseph A. Sacco of Worcester, Police Officer Michael H. Sacco and his wife Robin of West Boylston, Robert P. Sacco and his wife Susan of Worcester; a brother and sister in law, Victor "Perry" Sacco and his wife Rita; a sister in law, Beverly Sacco; four wonderful grandchildren he dearly loved and who loved and adored him back, Tony Sacco, Michael T. Sacco, Nicolette Sacco-Starr and her husband William and Domenic Sacco; a great granddaughter Vivianna Sacco who never failed to put a smile on his face; he also leaves a wide circle of loving friends and extended family. A brother, Graziano "George" Sacco pre deceased him. Freddie was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, the Eastside Improvement Club, Eastside Post 201, American Legion, and Post 3, Italian American War Veterans. True to his profession, Freddie loved to cook and prepare delicious meals for his family and friends. He enjoyed Golf, baseball and his Friday nights at the club with his friends. Family was very important and having the ones he loved around him for the holidays, special celebrations and meals were the best times of his life. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Thursday, June 11th 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Friday from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St where Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial in St John Cemetery will follow.
