Lucy A. (D'Elia) Hamilton

August 12, 1924 — May 19, 2015

Lucy A. (D'Elia) Hamilton, 90, of Worcester, formerly of 40 Belmont Street at Belmont Towers, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in St. Mary's Healthcare Center surrounded by her loving family. Lucy is survived by her two loving sons, Edward J. Hamilton, Jr. and his wife Darlene of East Brookfield and James E. Hamilton, Sr. and his wife Maria of Worcester; a sister, Angelina Pepin of Worcester; four beloved grandchildren, Linda Ann Hamilton and her husband Paul Lopez, James E. Hamilton, Jr., Kellie Hamilton all of Worcester and Kasey Hamilton of East Brookfield; two great grandchildren, Samuel J. and Lucianna Lopez; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her former husband Edward J. Hamilton, Sr.; an infant daughter, Linda Ann Hamilton; two brothers, Joseph and Alfred D'Elia; three sisters, Grace Ventresca, Rose Sachetto and Mary Silvestry. Lucy was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Italian immigrants Pietro and Anna (Grilla) D'Elia. She attended Worcester Public Schools and has lived here all her life. Lucy worked as a nurse's aide for Memorial Hospital for many years. She previously worked for Worcester Knitting as a factory worker. Lucy was a devoted catholic and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the former Our Lady of Fatima church where she attended the novena regularly. She enjoyed cooking mostly Italian dishes for family and friends and enjoyed there company and entertaining them in her home. Lucy's family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the staff at St. Mary's Healthcare Center for the companionships and care given to "Auntie Lucy." A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, May 22nd from 4-7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Lucy's funeral service and burial will be held privately for family members. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Restoration Fund, 28 Mulberry St., Worcester, MA. 01604.
