John P. Mahoney, Jr.

John P. "Dano" Mahoney, Jr., 88 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Knollwood Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. John is survived by his wife of sixty years, Dorothy E. (Barrett) Mahoney; his daughter, Karen E. Zingarelli of North Grafton; five brothers, Francis E. Mahoney of Stonington, CT., James R. Mahoney of Washington, DC., Joseph T. Mahoney of Whitinsville, Leo P. Mahoney of Plantation, FL., and William R. Mahoney of Sutton; two sisters, Elizabeth DeFusco of Fairlawn, NJ and Pat Mahoney of Whitinsville; three beloved grandchildren, Kathryn Zingarelli of Worcester, Lauren Zingarelli of Boston and Jillian Zingarelli of North Grafton; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Mary T. Rice and Eileen Mahoney; his son-in-law, Maurice Zingarelli. John was born on May 17th, 1927, one of ten children of the late John P. and Helen (Christian)Mahoney, Sr. He attended Northbridge High School and later enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country during WWII. John worked as an inspector for Rockwood Sprinkler Company for over twenty years. He also worked in the deli department for Shaw's Supermarket for many years. John loved golfing and was a member of Green Hill Country Club. He had a great ppreciation for old Westerns and Gene Autry music. He was a fun loving guy with a warm and generous heart. John had a great sense of humor and a quick wit that always kept his family laughing. A period of calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 10 am to 12 noon in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. A service in memory of John will be immediately following at 12 noon. Burial will be held privately.
