Scott A. Balcom, Sr., 56 passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 10, 2015. Scott was a loving father, grandfather brother, uncle and friend. He was born in Worcester to the late Gene and Jessie (Taylor) Balcom. Scott was extremely loving and proud of his two sons, Scott A. Balcom, Jr. of Oxford, and his fiancé, Jessica Habbel, and Matthew G. Balcom of Whitinsville and his fiancé Samantha Bedard, his adored grandson, Evan J. Balcom. He is also survived by his two brothers, Mark Balcom-Wolf of Barre and Gregg Balcom of Worcester; his two sisters, Linda Morrison of Barre and his twin sister, Sharon Chaput. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews; Jenni, Justin, Jessica, William, Jay, Ryan, Nicholas, Lindsay, Amanda and Steve; many great nieces and nephews. He leaves his former wife and mother of his children, Ann Marie Pizzarella and his "adopted mom" Mary "Grammie" O'Connell. Scott was a 1977 graduate of Doherty Memorial High School and received his associates from Central New England College. He worked for the Telegram and Gazette for many years and most recently had been working for The Commerce Insurance Company. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and was a founding member of the Hanover Theater. He was a grateful cancer survivor and participated in many fund raising events. He loved to make people laugh and always had a joke or story to tell. Scott was a kind, gentle and compassionate person who always had a positive attitude and a smile that could light up any room. His children were his joy and he took every opportunity to spend time with them, his greatest joy was spending those summers in Wells, Maine with his boys and whole family. Scott knew how to make people feel special; he had a big heart and always willing to lend a helping hand. There are no words to express how much he will be missed. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His funeral will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Cathedral of St. Paul 38 Chatham Street Worcester. Burial will be held privately in Notre Dame Cemetery at a later date.
