Leonard S. "Len" Gerardi, 89, of Jonesboro, Ga, formerly of Mattapoisett, a World War II veteran, died peacefully Wednesday, April 8,2015 in the Sacred Journey Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family, after an illness. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Marilyn (Greenwich) Gerardi; a son, Stephen A. Gerardi and his wife Marilynn of Dalton, Ma.; a daughter, Susan (Gerardi) Archey and her husband Lawrence of Springfield Ma., one brother, Peter Gerardi and his wife Lucy of Brewster and Shrewsbury, one sister, Helen Gremo of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews, and two sisters in law, Sylvia Gerardi, and Jennie Gerardi. He was predeceased by four brothers; William "Willow" Gerardi, Roland "Tex" Gerardi, Trosiard "Tro" Gerardi, and Christopher "Chris" Gerardi; two sisters; Rose Lanava and Florence Dunkerly. He was born in Worcester, Ma., son of the late Nunziato and Antoinette (Paldino) Gerardi. He was an Army veteran of World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, and the Central European Theatre. Mr. Gerardi was a district manager for John Hancock Life Insurance for many years. He was a graduate of Classical High School, Worcester, Ma and Syracuse University where he played on the football team. While living in Mattapoisett he was an active member of St. Anthony's Church. Len was an avid sports enthusiast, with a passion for football and his beloved Yankees. He spent many hours watching his children and grandchildren play in athletic events. He was a devoted husband who spent his later years caring for his wife Marilyn. "Len" was a former member of the Elks and Rotary Club. He was a very social person and loved being around people. He was always smiling and upbeat! He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Leonard's funeral will be held on Tuesday April 14, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St .Ann 24 Mulberry St. A time of visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday from 9:00AM to 10:30AM prior to the funeral Mass. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Leonard's name to the Renovation Fund of the Church of Our Lady of Mt.
