Roger C. Hessel, 67 of Holden passed away with his beloved family gathered at his side Monday, March 23rd 2015. Roger was born in Worcester, one of three children of Robert and Barbara (Cowan) Hessel. He grew up in Worcester, graduated from Classical High School. He then attended Worcester Junior College and Clarkson University. Roger then volunteered for the U.S. Marine Corps to serve his country. Upon discharge from active duty, he attended Central New England College where he earned two engineering degrees. He was later selected to attend the WPI School of industrial management. In 1972 Roger married Kathy Slein and together settled in Worcester later moving to Holden where they began to raise their family with love and dedication. Roger worked for the former Riley-Stoker Corporation, before accepting a position with The Hanover Insurance Company where he rose to the position of senior investigator. . Roger is survived by his wife Kathy; his son, Daniel R. Hessel; a sister, Barbara Hammond and her husband, David of Malden; many nieces, nephews; extended family and many friends. Besides his parents, Roger was pre deceased by a brother Richard. Roger was a member of St George Church, where he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Seven Hills Wheelmen, a bicycle riding club he recently joined and several Clock Associations. He was a talented clock and watch repair artisan. Roger was an avid golfer who could be found on the courses of Bedrock, Holden Hills and Wachusett Country Clubs. He was dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America and once served as assistant Scout Master with Troop 175 in Holden. Roger was most proud of his son Daniel's attaining the rank of Eagle Scout Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours from 9 am to 10:45am Thursday, March 26th in St George Church, 40 Brattle St. followed by his celebration of life funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Burial with Military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Dominican Monastery of the Mother of God, 1430 Riverdale Street West Springfield MA 01089-4698.
