Nellie A. (Sviklas) Paladino, 95, of Auburn, formerly of Harlem Street in Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2015, at Saint Mary Healthcare. Her loving husband of sixty-nine years, Anthony J. Paladino, predeceased her in December 2010. Nellie is survived by her two daughters, Dianne L. Paladino ,with whom she lived, and Marilyn Paladino-Hanson and her husband Paul of Charlton; five grandchildren, Ann Marie Gould and her husband George, Laurie Johnston and her husband Scott; Dennis Catino and his wife Rae Ann, William Catino, and Derek Courchaine and his wife Lisa; eight great grandchildren, Amanda, Brian, Anthony, Kaitlyn, Joseph, Adrienne "Bubba", Nathan, and Dylan; she is also survived by a precious, great-great granddaughter, that she got to hold in her arms, Audrey Georgette; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother and two sisters, Vite Sviklas, Blanche Lizewski, and Anna Ramian. Nellie was born in Worcester, daughter the late George and Anelia (Trunce) Sviklas, who emigrated from Lithuania. She lived in Worcester for most of her life, before moving to Auburn recently. Before marrying the love of her life and raising their daughters, she worked as an assembler for G.E. Telechron having previously worked during World War II, at American Steel and Wire Company. She loved her family and spending time with them; she was an instrumental part of their lives and was and integral part of helping to raise her grandson, Derek. She was a former member of Our Lady of Vilna Church. She enjoyed BINGO, tending to her flowers, and attending functions with family and friends. She loved to dance the Polka and was known in her circles and "The Polka Queen". Her family would like to thank all of the "Angels" at St. Mary Healthcare, their care and compassion made Nellie and her family feel loved and at ease. Calling Hours for Nellie will be held on Friday morning, March 20, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester, where Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
