Rudolph "Rudy" Masiello, 89 of Worcester passed away peacefully Saturday, February 28th 2015 with family gathered by his side. Rudy was born in Worcester, one of twelve children of Italian immigrants, Frank Masiello, Sr. and Anna (Martinelli) Masiello. He graduated from Commerce High School, joined the U.S. Army during World War II, serving his country proudly as a staff sergeant with the signal corps notably in several battles in Central Europe including D-Day. After discharge from the Army, Rudy worked many years for the family business, Massasoit Auto body, and earning his teaching degree from Fitchburg State College. Upon graduation from Fitchburg State, Rudy accepted a position with Assabet Valley Vocational High School in the Auto body department for the next 17 years before retiring in 1990, as lead teacher and department head. Rudy is survived by his loving wife and partner of 65 years, Mary (Cargiulo) Masiello; his two children, Patricia Reno and her husband Paul, Ronald Masiello and his wife Leslie; the five grandchildren he loved so much and who loved him, Anthony and Domenic Reno, Nicole O'Connor, Lauren Meehan, and Lindsay Duquette; nine great grandchildren; Dante, Will, Camdyn, Angelina, Desmond, Vince, Dillon, Cameron and Isabel; his three sisters, Rose Mongeon, Yolanda Landry and Mary Zereski; Nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Four brothers, Ralph, Frank Jr., Anthony and Angelo Masiello, as well as four sisters, Lucy DePiro, Theresa Salemmo, Rita Lunger and Julia Verdolino all pre deceased him. Rudy was a founding and active member of Our Lady of Loreto Church. A member of the Pope John Counsel Knights of Columbus, and the Eastside Post 201 American Legion. Rudy was a kind and caring man who put his family and others before himself. He always made himself available to lend a helping hand including his many years volunteering for "Why Me Inc.', and his timeless devotion to Our Lady of Loreto Church. He was a man of all trades and excelled in everything he did. He was an avid golfer, loved to tend to his beautiful flowers, bountiful vegetable gardens and especially relished in restoring Classic Cars. He was once recognized as a premier Auto body Technician in the City of Worcester. He had a heart of gold and will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rudy loved all sports; the Red Sox, Patriots and especially Yale Football. Rudy's funeral will be held Tuesday, March 3rd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St John Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 8:30 am to 10:30 am Tuesday morning prior to leaving for church.
