Ronald G. Degon passed away Wednesday February 11, 2015 at his home in Holden. He leaves behind three children: Hope Caliendo and her husband Mark of Orwigsburg PA., John Degon and his husband Andrew White of Portland ME., and Mark Degon and his wife Diana of North Attleboro MA. He also leaves four grandchildren: Emily Degon age 17, Haley Degon age 15, Elle Caliendo age 11, and Van Caliendo age 8. He is survived by his sister Sandra Davis and her husband Robert of Sterling, and his former wife Betty Ann Degon. The son of George J. and Sylvia R (Pendell) Degon, Ron was born December 12, 1938 in Worcester. After graduating from Major Beal High School in Shrewsbury class of 1956, Ron attended the U.S. Naval Academy and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. At WPI, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Ron had retired after careers in engineering and as a business owner. He worked as an engineer and sales representative for Trubor Manufacturing and was later the owner of New England Plastic Sales and then Worcester Labor Services. Ron was proud of being a licensed pilot and maintained a lifelong interest flying. Ron was a Past Master of Athelstan Lodge A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of Guiding Light Lodge A.F. & A.M, the Valley of Worcester Scottish Rite, and the Melha Shrine Ronald's funeral service will be held Wednesday evening, February 18, at 6PM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. in the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held at 5PM followed by his funeral service at 6PM. Inurnment will be held in Hillside Cemetery Sterling, in the spring.
