Vincent Winky McSheehy Sr

February 22, 1918 — February 8, 2015

Vincent S. Winky" McSheehy, Sr, of Worcester passed away peacefully, Sunday February 8th 2015 after a brief period of declining health. He was 96 years of age. Vincent was born in Worcester, one of nine children of Theobald and Clare (Carter) McSheehy, a direct descendant of Samuel Morse and Benjamin Franklin. He graduated from Commerce High School and attended Becker College. Just after the outbreak of World War II, Vincent joined the U.S. Army to serve his country proudly in Guarda Canael in the Pacific theatre. Upon his discharge and return to Worcester, Vincent met, dated and in 1958 married Joyce A. Bakanowski. For the next 55 years they lived in devotion and love raising their family happily until April 24, 2013 when Joyce left his side. Vincent continued to live his home until recently. Vincent is survived by his son, Vincent S. McSheehy, Jr. with whom he lived; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Vincent was pre deceased by his 8 siblings, Granville, Lloyd, Robert and Theobald McSheehy Jr. and Barbara Samon, Louise McSheehy, Esther Bent, and Clare Coontz. Vincent was a devoted catholic, a member of St John Church, attending Mass as often as he was able and a member of The Eastside Post 201 American Legion. At onetime Vincent volunteered his time to the Jack Barry Little League, and a volunteer with Troop 59 of the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed Baseball, football, walking and cards. The most important aspect of Vincent's life was his wife and son. Vincent's greatest memories and moments were spent with them. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday, February 16th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Tuesday, February 17th from the funeral home with a procession to St John's Church, 40 Temple St where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow next to his wife in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances can be made to the Holy Trinity Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 300 Barber Ave or the St John Church food for the poor, 44 Temple St. Vincent's family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Holy Trinity for the care, comfort and compassion given during a difficult time.
